How to preserve food for survival

Drying food is the best way to preserve it in an emergency situation. Drying foods makes them last for longer and removes moisture. It also inhibits the growth of bacteria.

Dried fruits can be used as snacks in emergencies and don't require cooking. They are portable and can be taken with you wherever you go.

While you can dry fruit at your home using a dehydrator and a sun oven, it's much more convenient to do so in a commercial setting. You could use a solar oven to dry all sorts of foods, including meat, fish, vegetables, and grains.

Food preservation is best done by making sure it is airtight. This stops oxygen from entering the container, which can cause food to spoil. If you seal the container tightly enough, there won't be any need to add preservatives.

If you do decide to add preservatives, try adding salt first. Salt prevents mold growth. Next, add vinegar. Vinegar kills bad bacteria and stops mold growth.

First, cut the food into small pieces. You can use a knife or scissors. Be sure to pack everything securely so no air can get inside.

Next, place your food in a ziploc bag. Place the food inside a plastic bag. Keep it warm until it dries fully.

Once food has dried completely, it can be stored in a sealed container. Make sure that nothing touches the food.
